This website was created with a single, focused purpose: to provide clear, accessible, and comprehensive information about the Bayeux Tapestry's historic loan to the United Kingdom in 2026.
For the first time in nearly a millennium, this masterpiece of medieval art is leaving France. We wanted to build a welcoming space where history enthusiasts, students, and curious visitors could learn about the tapestry, explore its scenes, and find practical information for planning their visit to the British Museum.

We believe that understanding the context of the tapestry, the politics, the people, and the sheer scale of the embroidery, makes seeing it in person a much richer experience.
As we approach the 1,000-year anniversary of the Norman Conquest in 2066, this site will evolve into a permanent educational resource dedicated to the Battle of Hastings, the figures who shaped it, and its lasting impact on English history.
The exhibition in London concludes in July 2027, at which point the tapestry will return to its permanent home in Normandy. But the story it tells remains a cornerstone of European history.
After the exhibition closes, this website will transition its focus. We will expand our content to cover the broader history of the Norman Conquest, detailed analyses of the Battle of Hastings, and the profound cultural shifts that followed 1066.
Our goal is to maintain this platform as a lasting tribute to the history stitched into those 70 metres of linen.
